Amateur Party is a fairly new band of Cheap Art's Andrew and Mike(Limpwrist/Kill the Man Who Questions) and Off Minor's Steve Roche. An attempt at some melody with nods to our mutual love of DC hardcore, early British postpunk and Philadelphia's reggae-punk tradition.

Limp Wrist CH-ART 05
Limp Wrist - The official discography CD
$10 ppd US

Putting new meaning to the phrase "hardcore for the hardcore," there's a fag in the pit (again). Long over-due as a band and a release, Limp Wrist's official discography CD gathers all of the group's recorded material—including a seven-inch, the self-titled full-length and compilation songs. Unlike the earlier CD collection on Paralogy Records, this CD includes the band's entire demo and five songs from that session previously unreleased, along with 12 minutes of enhanced CD-Rom video of live shows, and a comprehensive 20-page booklet full of band history and photos! This is a multi-label split release with Lengua Armada, Arashikage, and Golden Shower Records.
True if Destroyed CH-ART 04
True If Destroyed - CD/LP
$9ppd US

This was co-released on LP and CD with Franklin and Ed Walters Records. "Melodic guitars reflect a deep appreciation for the spirit of the ring and shimmer of mid-'80s DC bands like Rain, Soulside and Rites of Spring. Front woman Julia Gaylord's vocals, meanwhile, take a suspiciously angelic foil to the busy instrumentation, invoking the air--if not a revisitation--of an idealistic pocket of mid-'90s basement groups a la Discount, Current or Evergreen (Kentucky). Live, we think the band is one of the best sounding, locked-in groups from Philadelphia"

The Sound Of Failure CH-ART 03
The Sound Of Failure - The Party's Over CD
$9ppd US

Consistently one of the city's tightest (and loudest) bands, we've all been watching this band getting heavier every few months, always surprised on how they raise their own bar. Frontman Joe Gough played guitar in Kill The Man Who Questions for a while. Some people say they hear John Henry West, others say Unwound, others Universal Order of Armaggedon. We just like what happens when they play live or on record. This full-length was released in conjunction with fellow hometowners Ed Walters Records.

Great Clearing Off CH-ART 01
The Great Clearing Off - Within This Inch, We Are Free 7" EP
$4.00ppd US

The Great Clearing Off erupted from Philadelphia's traditionally fertile basement scene several years ago, with numerous shows and an impressively packaged demo CD under its belt by the end of the millenium. This seven-inch marks the band's first fully-loaded studio recording, while still focusing on the energy and urgency of its live shows. Within This Inch... contains four songs of aggressive, topical punk peppered with a gritty sense of melody.

Kill The Man Who Questions - Pigeon English 7" EP

$4.00ppd US

This self-released EP represents the first record Mike and Andrew collaborated on together--a six-song 7" of their band, Kill the Man Who Questions. Pigeon English is the final release featuring vocalist Niki Long. The covers for this record were designed by a local artist, Brian Fox, one of the mainstays of Philadelphia's progressive and fiercely independent art gallery/studios Space 1026.
